The full screen capture mode can be used with or without ABC.
Before capturing a full screen image (Full Scan) the SEM video levels should
also be adjusted. After focusing the image at the SEM console, the brightness
and contrast levels can either be adjusted using one of the preview modes, or
the SCALE function can be used. ABC is used, the levels should typically be set such that the line
profile fills the (roughly) center 50% of the scale without clipping at the top or
bottom of the line profile window. The pixel dwell time can also be optimized in any of the 'Rapid Preview' modes.
Full Scan
This item is a useful tool for video printing or just to get a full screen
view of the sample. The resolution of the image will be either 1024 x 768 ,
800 x 600 or
640 x 480, depending on the selection of the extreme bottom rightmost key from
the opening menu. A quick check of
the SEM video levels before starting the full screen capture is recommended.
This can be performed with any of the rapid preview modes. The auto
brightness and contrast option, ABC, can be turned on from the bottom of the
main menu prior to initiating the screen capture, if desired. For more
information about ABC, see Section III. When Full Scan is activated, the field
of view from the SEM is immediately digitized and stored on the SVGA monitor.
At completion of the scan, a data window appears prompting for magnification,
user name, and other sample information. Magnification, Case # (Log #) and
user comments are displayed and will appear on the video print. If the image
is saved, the other information will be stored in the TIF file. Note that any
data item which is changed will require [ENTER] to make the change permanent.
Pressing [ESC] will erase the data window, change the screen to a gray scale
palette, and place the data at the bottom of the screen, ready to print. Since
the entire screen will be printed, no menu items or other extraneous data are
displayed. All operations are initiated with keystrokes:
x To save the image to disk, press F1.
x To return to the main menu, press [ESC].
Note that the full scan mode uses only the hardware controlled dwell time for
noise reduction. There is no frame averaging in the Full Scan mode at this
time.
